Land clearing contractors in Landis, NC: Next door to home base, Lake Corriher to Irish Creek

Landis is a small Rowan County mill town of about 3,700 people, between China Grove to the north and Kannapolis to the south. It grew up around Linn Mills and the rail line that still runs through downtown, and its west side holds the 98-acre Lake Corriher Wilderness Area, where Lake Corriher and Landis Lake sit near the headwaters of Grants Creek.

Working in Landis

Jenkins All Terrain is based just up the road in China Grove, and Landis has been part of Mason Jenkins's home ground since he started the business in 2021. Getting there is a few minutes down NC 153, Cannon Boulevard (US 29), or I-85 to Exit 65 at Old Beatty Ford Road.

A small town that's growing

Landis is growing faster than its size suggests. The Landis Ridge industrial park started going up off Old Beatty Ford Road in 2024, and the Irish Creek area along Cannon Farm Road is slated for hundreds of new homes under a joint Landis and Kannapolis agreement. Older lots around Ryder Avenue and Rice Street, meanwhile, need regrading, stump work and driveway repair of their own.

Typical Landis work: house pads and drainage on new lots, clearing on family land being split for building, trails near the lake, and pasture work out west toward Enochville and Mount Ulla.

Services for Landis properties

Around Lake Corriher off Kimball Road and Sutton Road, forestry mulching opens up wooded lots while keeping the soil covered. Grading moves water away from foundations on the slow-draining clay near Upright Street, and land clearing gets stumps and roots out of building sites.

Landis runs its own electric utility, Landis Public Power, along with town water and sewer, so every excavation job starts with an NC811 locate. Long drives off Flat Rock Road get gravel driveway base work, fields west of town get bush hogging, and new builds get turnkey site work. Stump grinding, materials hauling and hydroseeding round out the list.

Water, watershed rules and storms

Landis drains two ways: Grants Creek heads north from near Lake Corriher toward China Grove, while the south edge of town follows an Irish Buffalo Creek tributary near Kannapolis Lake. The town writes its own development rules, including water supply watershed overlays with stream buffers of 30 to 100 feet depending on density, and it runs its own floodplain administration. Rowan County adds an approved erosion control plan for anything over an acre.

Weather is the other variable. The August 2023 EF-1 tornado led to a state disaster declaration in Landis, and the July 2026 storms downed trees near Flat Rock and Joy Hill Roads.

“Great experience with Mason. He did an incredible job with our land. The area that needed so much work and wasn’t functional is now gonna be a beautiful weekend camping, entertaining and relaxing spot. The tree removal project including stump grinding and mulching looks great…”

Can you clear or mulch land near Lake Corriher?

Yes, on private property and with the right setbacks. Landis applies its own stream buffer and watershed rules, and forestry mulching is often the best fit near the water because it keeps the soil in place. Mason marks any buffers before work starts.

Do you dig around Landis Public Power and town utility lines?

Carefully. Landis runs its own electric, water and sewer systems, so every dig starts with an NC811 locate, and work near marked lines is done slowly and by hand where needed.

Do you work around Irish Creek and Cannon Farm Road?

Yes. Jenkins All Terrain serves the south side of Landis, including Irish Creek, Cannon Farm Road and the area toward Kannapolis Lake, with lot clearing, house pads, driveways and drainage for individual owners.

Can you fix a washed-out gravel driveway in Landis?

Yes. Most washed-out drives here fail because the red clay underneath wasn't prepped or there's no culvert to move water under the drive. Mason rebuilds the base, adds fabric and stone where needed, and sets a culvert if runoff is the cause.

How much does land clearing cost in Landis?

It depends on tree size and density, how many stumps come out, slope, access and how much debris leaves the site. A brushy lot near the lake and a stand of hardwoods off Joy Hill Road price very differently, so every job gets a free estimate first.
